Milgram

Here’s something I’ve wanted to add to our library for a long time: a rounded workhorse sans, with open humanist apertures and a generous x-height. I think the darkest styles have a zaftig, Oz Cooper quality, and the lightest weights look vaguely scientific, like letters engraved on a graduated beaker. The current plan is for six roman weights plus matching italics. Is this Signal’s answer to Calibri? No, but thanks for asking. I’m calling it Milgram after Stanley Milgram, whose eponymous experiments probed the behavior of ordinary people in totalitarian times. I’ve been thinking about him a lot these days for, ah, some reason. Currently on the long finger for release in 2026, but give a shout if you want a closer look sooner.

Exact for Block, Inc.

Pleased to report that the folks at Block, Inc. (parent company of Square, Cash App, and Tidal) have chosen our Exact typeface to support their new branding system. Part of the rollout was an advertising takeover of the sprawling Union Square subway station in New York City, where nearly every surface in sight bore another Cash App message sent in Exact Regular. OOH creative by Block’s own in-house team in collaboration with MediaMonks. The full Exact family is here. →

Reckham Specimen

While the 24 styles of Reckham Italic wend their way through development hell, the Reckham specimen book proceeds apace. Featuring new work by Dublin-based artist Kirsten French, who’s been freezing a variety of household objects (fruit, garden clippings, fridge magnets, measuring tapes, Lego) into blocks of ice and taking macro photographs of them as they thawed. I felt these would be the perfect visual accompaniment to Reckham because I like them, the way I used to like Reckham before I had the bright idea of adding 24 styles of italic. The roman weights, of course, have been out for a while, and are here. →

Matre

Matre is a new Oslo-based furniture company that “creates products to be loved and to last for generations.” They reissue Norwegian design classics and provide a platform for emerging design talent. And Oslo-based Bielke&Yang have done them a lovely new branding system using our Pressio. (And, in fairness, FKT Echo Condensed as well, which is a sharp-looking face in spite of the fact that we didn't design it.) You can check out Pressio here. →

Next Act

Next Act is a community of scientists, teachers and education researchers working to support meaningful responses to climate change through education. Post Studio crafted a sharp new identity and website for them using our own Ballinger Extra Condensed. Meet the whole family here. →
